Use cases
Audit and review of permissions
Periodically reviewing who has access to what helps identify and remove outdated or excessive permissions, ensuring users only have the access necessary for their roles.
Change tracking
Monitoring configuration changes in systems or applications allows teams to identify the source of system failures or bugs that may result from recent updates or modifications.
Security incident investigation
Tracking unauthorized access or suspicious activity through audit logs enables swift investigation of security incidents, helping determine who accessed sensitive data and when.
Managing audit log permissions
Admins control who can access audit logs by configuring permissions within Permission Sets.
Steps to enable audit log access for users
- Navigate to Setup > Security > Permission Sets.
- Select the Permission Set assigned to the user role.
- Locate the Manage audit logs permission under the Setup and Management section.
- Check the permission checkbox ON to grant access.
- Click Save to apply the changes.
Note: Only users assigned this permission can view, filter, and search audit logs.
Restricting audit log access
For security reasons, admins can:
- Assign audit log access only to specific roles such as managers or compliance teams.
- Disable access for lower-level users to protect sensitive data.
- Regularly review permissions to ensure only necessary personnel have access.
If a user no longer requires audit log access, remove the Manage audit logs permission from their Permission Set.
